Wm. Schmale


Mr. Schmale first joined the VSI team in early 2013 as the Vice President for Operations & Business Development, later being promoted by the Board to his current position of President. Prior to joining VSI, Mr. Schmale was a member of the executive management team at BAE Systems and before that, he was an executive at SpecTal, LLC. Mr. Schmale spent 14 years with the U.S. Government serving in various capacities and assignments in direct support of the USG mission while living and working in nearly 50 countries. Among his professional certifications, he is both a PMP and a CISSP, and he holds a Master’s Degree in Security Policy/International Affairs.

Kent Barton

Chief Financial Officer

Mr. Kent Barton is Vaxcom’s Chief Financial Officer and one of the company’s ten original employee founders. Mr. Barton is also a member of Vaxcom’s Board of Directors, serving as Treasurer since December 1990. Mr. Barton’s effective management skills, entrepreneurial style, and financial acumen contributed significantly to the evolution of Vaxcom from a one contract, $500,000 company in 1990, to over $25M today. The ability to look to the future while honoring Vaxcom’s commitment to client care and employee engagement has made Mr. Barton’s guidance incredibly important as the company experiences record setting growth. Mr. Barton ensures that Vaxcom meets all its financial goals and requirements. He is responsible for the management of all accounting, administrative, and contracting functions including treasury, regulatory and independent audit, pension, procurement, and risk. Prior to Vaxcom, Mr. Barton worked in financial management positions in the government contracting community for Mitre Corporation, CSC, and Contel Page. He holds a Bachelor Degree in both Business Administration and Accounting, as well as a certificate in Procurement and Contracts Management from the University of Virginia. He is  also a member of the National Contracts Management Association.

Suzan Alves

Human Resources Manager & FSO

As the Vaxcom Human Resources Manager and Facility Security Officer, Ms. Suzan Alves is responsible for maintaining security regulations, creating revolutionary employment opportunities, enhancing benefits, and cultivating employee relations which move the business forward. Ms. Alves is focused on maintaining a family oriented corporate culture and doing whatever it takes to keep employees energized to work for Vaxcom. Prior to joining Vaxcom, Ms. Alves worked for a government contracting company from the time it had one employee to the time it had fifty. Ms. Alves helped build this company and successfully led Human Resources, Security, Corporate Management, and Quality Assurance with ISO 9001 Compliance. Aside from Ms. Alves’ expertise in Human Resources and Security, she also has experience with contract management, proposal development, quality assurance, and accounting. Ms. Alves is a member of SHRM, has a degree in Business Management, and holds various DoD Security certificates.
